Rethinking Residencies is a working group of sixteen New York-based artist residency programs. Initiated in March 2014, its members share knowledge and resources, while cultivating critical thinking and discourse about residencies.

In December 2021, Rethinking Residencies organized a three-day online symposium on visual art residencies. Video documentation of this symposium is here. A publication based on the symposium will be launched in June 2022.
